Stockpiling

Sitting at my computer, I filled my cart with diapers, my mind swirling with thoughts of a world on the brink of collapse. I was determined not to be caught off-guard. The notion of facing a crisis without enough diapers was unacceptable.

As my cart grew, I wondered if these diapers might be more than just baby necessities. In a society grasping for stability, I pictured diapers as a new form of currency, a vital commodity in the barter system of a world gone mad.

When the truckload of diapers arrived, I frantically unpacked them, proud of my foresight. The huge stockpile was a symbol of my preparedness, until my wife asked me if I got the right size. The horror of not knowing that there was a right size was quite evident in my inconsolable howling.
