Setting a human alarm

"Listen, man, no matter what I say tomorrow morning, you have to wake me up. I'll probably try to get out of it, saying I'm too tired or whatever, but don't let me. I'll even say 'I know what I said, but I wasn't thinking straight. I've changed my mind.' Don't fall for it."

"Okay, I got you. I'll make sure you're up, no matter what."

"I'm serious. I'll tell you that I didn't mean what I said tonight. But I did. Don't listen to a word I say in the morning, no matter how convincing I sound. Even if I say, 'You're gonna keep this up, aren't you? You're just gonna keep saying what I told you last night.' Stick to your guns."

"Got it. I won't let you down."

The next morning arrived, and as promised, the roommate attempted to rouse his friend from slumber.

"Hey, time to get up. You know the drill."

"Nah, forget it. I'm not doing it. Just let me sleep."

"No can do, buddy. You were pretty clear last night."

"I know what I said, but I wasn't thinking straight. I've changed my mind."

"You said you'd say that. I'm just doing what you told me to do."

"You're gonna keep this up, aren't you? You're just gonna keep saying what I told you last night."

"Yep, because that's exactly what you said would happen. You told me not to listen, no matter what."

"Okay, fine, but what if I told you that I knew I would say that too? That I'd predict you saying I predicted it? Huh? What then?"
