Realizing what was lost

He stared at the pile of laundry, wondering, "Why aren't my clothes magically clean anymore?"

He opened the fridge to find it full of ingredients. "Wasn't there a time when these things would just... become dinner?"

He glanced around the unkempt house, noticing the layers of dust and cluttered surfaces. "Didn't the house used to clean itself?"

In the bathroom, he caught his reflection in the mirror, his hair disheveled and a week's worth of stubble on his face. "Didn't my appearance used to maintain itself too?"

On and on he went, realizing the magic that had vanished along with her.
